Being Porto

With ten whole days to spend in Porto, Portugal, Summer and I wanted to make sure we chose the best accommodations for our needs. Taking into consideration price, location, and privacy as the main factors, we settled on Being Porto Hostel. This was honestly a great deal, they had laundry service, a communal kitchen, and we had a private room. The location was incredible; from our hostel we had access to nearly everything. A 2 minute walk to the river, seconds away from an amazing bakery, and surrounded by restaurants and stores. The bed was just as advertised by the hostel, an average size and it was pretty comfortable. There was an oscillating fan in the corner, a chair that was not stable whatsoever, and a little bedside table for a lamp with some storage underneath. For $71 a night this was honestly perfect. I could not imagine how the trip would've been if we were not in that location.

The staff were so friendly and were willing to help with any questions. The laundry service they offered was simple and efficient: Usually we dropped our clothes off at the front desk in the morning, left for the day, and were able to pick it up that evening or the next day. Since we had quite the extended stay, it was a real lifesaver to have our clothes washed, dried, and folded for just 7 euro a load. Cold water, beer and wine are also available to purchase out of a fridge at reception. Side note, as an American, the alcohol prices in Porto are euphoric.

As guests, we had an electronic key to open our room as well as the door for the main entrance. (Before you get your key, you must be buzzed in by the staff) So, if you are concerned about safety, just know the door to the hostel is not open to the public. I would highly recommend the cafe/bakery called Farina across the street. We actually got to know the barista pretty well, it became an every morning event, so he started to remember us. After picking up the most delicious pastries I’ve ever had, we would head over to the small park down the street called Jardim do Infante Dom Henrique and eat our breakfast. It was amazing because we were eating right in a downtown park, so after our espresso we were at most a 20 minute walk from anywhere we would want to go.
